A Local Secret To Procuring Fine Art in Ogunquit, Maine

Let me share a little Ogunquit secret with you…if you’re the type of traveler who enjoys supporting local artists by purchasing a piece of art to bring home with you (to remind you of your visit to our ‘Beautiful Place by the Sea’) — then next year you’ll want to arrange your summer getaway during the Ogunquit Art Association’s Annual Art Auction held at the Barn Gallery on Shore Road.

Parking in walking distance of the gallery is always tough to find during the few hours of this widely attended event, as collectors from all over converge on the little gallery filled with the work of ‘Maine’s Oldest Artist Group’ and the lively bidding ensues.

This year, on Saturday, August 6, 2016, the Ogunquit Art Association held their 65th Annual Art Auction with auctioneer Hap Moore directing the bidding on paintings, graphics, photographs, and sculpture created by OAA artists, many with national and international reputations.

Artscope Magazine was a sponsor of the auction.

Some of the highlights of the 2016 OAA Auction included an oil painting by Jayne Adams titled ‘Low Tide Scavengers’, ‘Crowd Pleaser’ – a watercolor by Lou Rizzo, selected pastels by Eve Corey, three reduction woodcut prints (including the spectacular ‘Moonlight Drawbridge’ depicting Perkins Cove) by internationally renowned Master Printmaker Don Gorvett (see related video below for a behind the scenes look at Gorvett’s process), and an acrylic depiction of the ‘Marginal Way’ by colorist Norman West.
